The Revd. Dr Samuel took up the role of Principal of London School of Theology in January 2017. He is a Methodist minister who came to LST from the University of Durham where he held the roles of Academic Dean of St John’s College & Director of Wesley Study Centre.  Born in Barbados, he grew up in Antigua and came to Britain in the mid 1990s where he spent four intense and happy years training for ministry and completing a BA in Theology & Pastoral Studies at the Nazarene Theological College in Manchester.  Whilst working as a Methodist circuit minister and then School Chaplain & New Testament Tutor at Spurgeon’s College he undertook doctoral research in Theology

& Education at King’s College London. He was awarded his PhD for a multidisciplinary thesis exploring the interplay between biblical studies, church history and education entitled: Holiness & Holy School. He teaching specialism is New Testament and Leadership in Christian ministry and he is passionate about holiness and Christian discipleship. Dr Samuel has been the preacher in the House of Commons, for the BBC Sunday Service, and is a presenter for Prayer for the Day and The Daily Service on BBC Radio 4.
